Island Mine

Wayne with Lyle in front

Last night was breathtaking at Siskiwit Bay. A clear night with hardly a cloud out. The sliver of a moon set early and we saw a long shooting star. The northern lights were pretty weak for northern lights … what we saw was a large glow in the northern sky that lit up the whole bay. The people in the docked boat went to bed early so we just sat there and took in the view of the sky and bay. It was beautiful, but only I saw the shooting lights when I had to get up before dawn for a potty break.

Today was an easy hike. This was an uphill hike once we left the bay. The trail was through dense forest and we heard moose bellow and groan like I've never heard. Lyle was bringing up the rear and saw a cow. At the top of the hill was Island Mine where we stopped for a break and then we moved on to Island Mine Campground and lunch. It was a nice breezy day. We first looked at a group campsite, but moved up to the individual sites when a party of six hiked it. Again solitude was the word for the day. Tonight for dinner was my old standby of tuna with macaroni and cheese. This time I brought a little can of Pringles potato chips to sprinkle on top. This was topped off with vanilla pudding for dessert.
